Short post today. Apple iOS7 is on the horizon. Check out the new design at http://www.apple.com/ios/ios7/design/.
My initial thoughts on it are that it hurts my eyes and repulses me. Am I happy that Apple has finally moved away from skeuomorphic design? Yes. Am I a fan of simplicity in design? Absolutely. Then why do the gradients and color palette offend me so? Why does the minimalism make me never want to look at my phone? I am wrestling with it in my head, but maybe I’ll post more on the subject later after I’ve had some time to live with it and use it firsthand. But right now, you can check it out and formulate your own opinion.
I’ve recently been working on a couple of user-interface designs for multiple mobile and web platforms, and as such, have been doing lots of research. I have long subscribed to the theory that people don’t know what they want until you tell them. In this blog post, I talk about a real-life example, and what some others have thought.
